Tonight's gonna be a good night.

Apologies for my recent lack of posting, but I have been incredibly busy trying to seek out new tracks online that aren't remixes of Michael Jackson songs. Actually, I am welcoming this return to the era of Michael Jacksonism with open arms, as are most, as many of the songs are undoubtedly danceworthy. I haven't discovered anything exciting or new in terms of mixes on the MJ front but will keep my ears peeled. In the meantime, here's a track that I suspect could have been this summer's anthem if it had been released 4 months earlier. Bartletta's edit of the Black Eyed Peas' "I Got A Feeling" is particularly anthemic and possesses heaps of feel-gooditude. A perfect song for a summer Saturday out on the town; apologies this is being posted on a Monday.

Might like you better

Once every short while, a song comes along that is so raunchy and sexually promiscuous its almost impossible to ignore. The rising queen of such tracks seems to be Amanda Blank, whose lyrics I suspect make even the most vile hip-hop artists throw up in their mouths a little bit. But like the sound of pulling apart two forks whose prongs have been wedged together, you can't help but listen no matter how uncomfortable it may be. This track is entitled 'Might Like You Better', and has been given a pretty solid re-edit by the relatively unknown RADIO KROME. It’s a good treatment, and even if its not your style, its worth listening just for the first verse:

Ride no lie just get inside me /

Like you better if you just ride me /

Grind me, try me, watch me finish /

I like you better if you get up in it.

Move over Shakespeare.

When I go to the dealer, ya know I cop that.

You know the Magic Bullet? Of course you do. Its that glorified blender that they claim can make, like, 500 meals in 8 seconds or less. (Note they always forget to mention that's not including the time it takes to buy the groceries, lay them out nicely, have them all pre-chopped and sliced, and then the additional time for when you will be vomiting afterwards due to the poor quality of the food.) This infomercial is on about ten bajillion times every day, and I watch it pretty much every time its on. It's just so captivating. Anyways, I digress, and to progress to my main point . The only numerical value greater than the amount of times I have seen that infomercial is the number of versions of 'Pop Champagne' that have been recorded. This whole confusing situation is not helped by the fact that I can't, for the life of me, distinguish the song from Arab Money or any other Ron Browz track.

That's not to say I dont find either of them catchy, because I certainly do. But McFly has given the former track a real groovy treatment below. Its got a real funk vibe, which wouldn't seem to match the ballermadskrillziosity of the original...but somehow it works out pretty nice. Enjoy.

Moar sunny Saturdays

It's a sunny, warm summer afternoon in Vancouver, and I am not in the mood to listen to another random house music melody in [•]-minor. Nope, I want to hear something bubbly and catchy today. I want to eat gelato, and I want to hear something bubbly and catchy. Typically I would not suggest Deadmau5 for such a purpose but this relatively newly-released version of the club favorite ' Ghosts n Stuff' - entitled 'Moar Ghosts n Whatever' (minus one for the name) - is fun, upbeat, and makes me want to throw a dance party at the beach and invite the entire staff of Malibu Sands. Especially Stacey Carosi.

Note to DJs, loop some (read: any) acapella lyric at and slap this tune in the background and you'll have a fun remix faster than you could make salsa in the Magic Bullet.

When I step on the scene, y'all know me.

Back in December, I went to Vegas to lose some money and examine how Christmas is celebrated in Sin City. We went to Tao, Moon, and LAVO the three nights we were there, and heard 'I'm In Las Vegas Bitch' about 97 times over the course of the three evenings. 7 months later, the original is getting airplay in every club here in Vancouver and is being worked into countless mixes are remixes. Meanwhile, these funny looking gentlemen continue making music post the release of their recent album entitled Party Rock.

I'd argue their strength is their dance-friendly remixes. This particular track is a remix of a solid Kanye tune off of 808s and Heartbreaks - the track barely resembles the original, which in this case isn't necessarily a good thing. But with two specific references to tight pants, I couldn't not post it.

A Friday bonus, one of the catchier ones from Party Rock - 'Lil Hipster Girl'.
Peace.

I am the king, I will not be headed

Two files to kick things off.

A few years ago, I listened to Bloc Party for its frantic pace and almost troubling melodies. It felt like the type of music that should be played during a fire alarm. Now I appreciate these same qualities for being able to create the same panic, only instead of at the emergency exits, at the disco.

This one has a treatment from Alex Metric, and while it may sound like Pjanoo on the intro, I can assure that it is ultimately rather different.

I haven't made my mind up about MSTRKRFT - as catchy as I find the hooks, the monotony eventually overwhelms. Fist of God was catchy but not catchy enough for me to forget the whole damn thing sounded the same. In moderation however, I find myself nodding my head, as I did when I recently found this track.
